Dr. Johanna Buchert is currently Executive Vice President at Natural Resources Institute Finland (www.luke.fi). Natural Resources Institute Finland promotes bioeconomy and sustainable use of natural resources with key focus on forestry, agriculture, food value chain, blue bioeconomy and wild-life research. The institute has a staff of about 1400.
Johanna Buchert has worked at VTT Technical Research Center of Finland Ltd in different positions before moving to Luke in 2015. At VTT she was responsible of the research activities in the business area Solutions for Natural Resources and Environment.
Her own research has focused on enzyme-aided processing and valorization of both forest and agro biomasses for different industrial applications. She has published over 150 peer-reviewed scientific articles in different areas of biomass processing. She has received the Marcus Wallenberg Prize at 2003 together with Prof. Tapani Vuorinen, Dr. Anita Teleman and Prof. Maija Tenkanen on the role of hexenuronic acid removal in pulp bleaching.
